5 ways to (slowly) embrace winter this year

‘Tis the season for comfort, coze, and slowly immersing yourself into a period of rest. Welcome, winter!

I've spoken about seasonal slow living several times on my platform and it's because I firmly stand by its accessibility into any slow living journey. So, if you're looking to embrace this time of year for what it is, incorporate some simple slow living practices, or are in need of a wintery boost (whether you're a winter person or not), read on!

Create a Winter Bucket List

This is the last time I’ll talk about seasonal bucket lists this year (lol). But seriously, they’re the best. They’re fun, they help you get creative, and they help hold you accountable (we love a complete to-do list!). You don’t need to have a huge bucket list, either. Start with a handful of things you associate and love about this time of year, and get to it. Need ideas? I have a free customizable bucket list ready to go for ya.

Host/Attend Themed Dinners (and Game Nights!)

It’s cold and we want to stay inside. What better way to make the most out of that time than to have a themed dinner party or game night?? These are my FAVORITE to host but if you’re not down for all that work, consider taking turns hosting in your friend/family group. Some ideas: gingerbread house night, holiday movie marathon night, cookie decorating night, jackbox game night, or a white elephant game gift night!

Hide Out in a Coffee Shop

Another version of “I’d like to stay inside where it’s warm, please!”. This option gets you out of the house and into a cozy chill environment of a local coffee shop. They have the best vibes, honestly. Order yourself a seasonal bev (peppermint mochas are my favorite) and get lost in whatever project you’ve been meaning to work on. Need ideas? How about a doodle, a paint-by-sticker page, a new book, or writing your goals for 2024!

Have the Cookie and Cocoa

Repeat after me: You deserve the cookie with the extra sprinkles and the cocoa with the marshmallows on top. Yep, you do! Have it, enjoy it, and could you pass me a cookie, too? Seriously though, ‘tis the season for fun treats and drinks, so embrace that! I’m a big choc peppermint gal (if you couldn’t tell) but I do like a sugar cookie, snickerdoodle, or gingerbread. Bonus points if you do a cookie swap!!

Embrace All Things Cozy

I love an autumn cozy but I don’t think anyone could argue with winter being the ultimate coze season. We’ve got hot fireplaces and warm blankets. Steamy hot cocoas and huddles of friends/family round the table. There’s twinkly lights, trips to the museum, chunky sweaters, nostalgic tunes… everything about winter shouts comfort and joy whether we celebrate the holidays or not. Find your definition of cozy and embrace it.
